Okay, this song is one of my favorite Rihanna songs.  Rihanna, really feels this song, and for me has so much meaning.   I can feel this song in my soul.  I can be talking about my relationship with my boyfriend, and if you remove some parts, you can apply it to your best friend, dog, or even a teddy bear.  This song can take on many feels and have different meanings for everyone.  Some people have said that Rihanna is singing this song to Chris Brown as she refers to him as a shining star (after all he is a superstar) in the sky.  Okay it does sound believable, but Rihanna didn't write the song.  Sia did.  So that theory gets thrown out the door.  Nonetheless, Diamonds is a far cry from Rihanna's usual uptempo songs, and she nails it.  I love it so much, that I decided to cover it...  I hope you enjoy.

As vocal artists we evaluate songs a little differently than the listening public. Many artists who have "trained" ears listen to songs from a more techinical perspective. Don't get me wrong the listening public is probably best qualified to say if a song is a hit or not, but a trained ear can tell you all the "mechnical" stuff. So from an artist's perpective, I say that "Girl on Fire" (Inferno version) is a masterpiece. It is probably one of the most difficult songs to cover right now. I have observed the various covers and very very few seem able to deliver the chorus with the power and intensity that Alicia has delivered, and lets not discuss the Nicki Minaj Raps. I think "Girl on Fire" is a defining moment not only for Alicia Keys comeback, but I believe that Alicia has set the bar for pop music. No longer will "safe" songs be the standard. So I am excited to see how the music industry responds. Oh by the way, I did cover this song, and it no doubt is the most difficult song I have ever covered. People often tell me that this performance is the best National Anthem that they have ever heard. Wow, I can't imagine that is even true. Yes, I have heard the Whitney Houston version (that is my personal favorite) but I'll let you decide. I was 15 when I performed this at North Carolina Central University(NCCU). There are 3 things significant about this performance: I performed in front of a very hostile crowd (just kidding) but Central is notorious for their ability to tell performers how they feel, This was the single most important game of the season at Central, they played their all time rival North Carolina A&T State University (NCA&T), and finally this performance was my first ever live solo performance and it was in front of 4000 people. The funniest part is, when i initially walked out onto the court, I thought I didn't need one. My mother said, she honestly believes that I didn't need one. Okay so Let me know what you think. Is this one of the best National Anthem Performances? Okay, now I am a kid, so no polital statements about how the forefathers intended for the National Anthem to be sung. Now that I think about it, how does anyone know for sure?
